Halloween hair Ideas

Halloween Hair and Nail Ideas 2018

Halloween is almost here and we have to say that we are pretty excited. Not only does it mean that there are going to be tons of sweets lying around, but we also get to have some fun and dress up. The trouble is, not everyone wants to go down the usual route when it comes to costumes, so what can they do?

To help give you the most amazing look this Halloween, we have put together our guide to some of the very best Halloween hair and nail ideas for 2018.

Halloween hair ideas

So, when it comes to planning an outfit for Halloween, there is a good chance that you are going to forget about your hair. However, your hairstyle can really make or break a Halloween outfit, as well as this, it can also help to give you a spooky look, without having to go to the effort of designing an entire outfit.

But where do you start with Halloween hair? To give you some inspiration we have put together a variety of Halloween ideas that you can try out for yourself.

If you are feeling creative, not to mention if you have hair that is light enough to take on a dye, then a pumpkin bun is a great option for you to consider. Not only is it easy to do, but it is perfect for any Halloween party too. All you need to do is bring your hair up into a ballerina bun (using a doughnut if needed) before spraying it a nice bright orange.

For those who are particularly crafty, you could take it one step further and make a leaf-like hairpiece, which will definitely add to the illusion.

Another great bun based Halloween hairstyle that we love is a spider style bun. This works much the same as the pumpkin hair, but instead of painting orange, you can paint it black (if you dare) before adding in some pipe cleaner legs. You could even take this one step further and add some googly eyes if you want to make it cute rather than out and out scary.

For those who may be opting for a fun Halloween costume, such as a doll or something similar, then a hair bow is a great option.

These can be hard to master, however, the effort really is worth it in the end and a hair bow can look amazing, as well as really add into an outfit, even one that is relatively plain and uninteresting.

Halloween nail ideas

When you are planning an outfit for an event or for a party, then chances are that you will always take the time to think about your nails. However, the same isn’t usually true when it comes to Halloweens outfits.

However, it is important to remember that if you really want to perfectly finish off your Halloween outfit, then you might need to consider some Halloween themed nail art. There are a variety of designs and decorations you can use to create Halloween-esque nails, so if you are looking for inspiration then you might not want to look any further than our assortment of Halloween Nail Ideas.

You can keep things simple with an orange and black colour scheme, which might be more basic than other approaches, but we can assure you, when it is finished, you will be really pleased with the results.

If you are feeling a skeleton vibe, then you may find that a sparkly skeleton nail design is just what your nails need. Especially if you are dressing up as a skeleton for trick or treating or as a part of your Halloween costume.

For those who are not sure what they are dressing up as, or whether they are dressing up at all, and want to create a Halloween esque look that they love, then Ombre nails might be a great idea. You need to work with relatively dark colours if you want to really make sure that your nails look spooky enough, however, a dark red and a purple, or even black are going to work really well together.

A truly creative look for Halloween nails is nails with stitches, the best way to create this look is to use a light base colour which can then be topped with a glitter top and some Frankenstein like stitches next to your cuticles. We really like the fact that these nails are pretty, but that they are still in keeping with the rest of Halloween style. Perfect for a party or for a night out.

Worried that you won’t quite be able to achieve the most amazing Halloween looks for your party or event? Well, why not come and see us here at Aer Blowdry Bar for our Halloween Makeup, nails and hair event.

Held on Saturday 27th October from 3:30pm to 7:30pm you can transform yourself into whatever spooky look is on your mind. We have 5 professional and talented make up artists on site who specialise in face-painting. Not only this but we will also have a beautician to tackle nail art and hair stylists who can help to transform your look. If this wasn’t enough there is prosecco and a truly party atmosphere, which will get you in the Halloween mood.

We are open to both men and women, so why not come along as a couple and have a Halloween inspired makeover. We can help you to feel your best, even if your main aim is to look your worst.

Halloween Makeup Idea

Halloween Make-up Ideas 2018

Whilst Halloween is a great time of year, for those who struggle with costume or make-up ideas it can be a relatively stressful time. After all, you are going to want to make sure you make an impression, but, for most people, you are going to want to still look great. Particularly if you are heading to a party or event.

There are plenty of people who will pop a pair of cat ears on and call that their outfit, but what about those of us who want something a little different? Something that is really going to stand-out.

These people are going to want to get some make-up inspiration to really make sure that they don’t blend in. To help inspire you, we have put together some of the best Halloween make-up ideas for 2018. All to make sure that you look and feel amazing come to your Halloween party, event, night out or simply just if you are planning on trick or treating with your kids.

An evil mermaid

Glitter might not seem like it is particularly terrifying, but given a Halloween twist it can be pretty impressive. Mermaids are a great Halloween option, sure, they can be cutesy, but if you mix in some darker coloured glitter, maybe even with a drop or two of fake blood, then you are going to create a sea monster that is going to have people fishing to find out how you created your look.

Skull face

Now, this may seem like an obvious one, but more often than not, the old ones are the best. The great thing about skull faces is that they are easy to mix with a suit or something black, making a Halloween costume, not to mention the fact that there are so many variations and styles out there to choose from, that you can definitely make sure that you put your own spin on things. You can also use this as the basis for a couples costume idea, as it works for both men and women.

Pennywise the clown

Not for the faint-hearted, not only is this make-up style pretty darn terrifying, but it can be tricky to do too. There are lots of guides online to help you to recreate this monster clown look, but you may find that you need to give yourself plenty of time to try and recreate this (or even better, find someone else who can do it for you).

A broken doll

There seems to be more and more doll based horror films at the moment, which means that dolls are becoming scary again. You can opt for a simple doll face make-up if you are short on time, just don’t forget the red lips and freckles. However, if you want to give it a spooky spin, then why not opt for a broken doll instead? It is the same base, but you add in plenty of cracks and lines to your face, which can make your face appear even scarier.

Zombie

Zombies may seem obvious, but there is a reason why they keep appearing in the Halloween make-up rundown time and time again. Zombies are scary, that is a fact, and there is so much that you can do with this style that it is easy to customise. Some may opt for a Walking Dead realistic zombie, whilst some may decide that a more cartoony, green zombie is a better approach.

Pop art person

Most of us love the art prints made famous by Andy Warhol, however, you might not realise that you can bring this look to life using some careful make-up techniques and a whole lot of bright colours. We really like this idea for a party as it is not only different, but it is a sure-fire way to get noticed too.

Vampire

For those who are short of time, or are not feeling particularly creative, a vampire might be the best option. For this look you are going to need incredibly pale skin which you then need to team with bright red lipstick and some dark and dramatic eyes. Then you will be one step closer to creating a vampire look which will have Dracula himself impressed.

We hope that these ideas have helped to inspire you for your Halloween plans. The trick is to try and think about not only what you can do, but also the amount of time that you have. You also want to think about the type of event or party that you are going to, as you are going to want to keep it suitable.

If you think that you could do with some support when it comes to making the most amazing Halloween look, then you might want to come and check out the Halloween event at Aer Blowdry Bar.

We have organised a spooktastic time on Saturday the 27th of October. Not only will you be able to book in to have your hair styled by one of our amazing team, but we are also offering appointments with a beautician, for amazing Halloween nails and slots with one of the 5 make-up artists who will be transforming guys and girls into ghosts and ghouls.

If this wasn’t enough we also have Prosecco and a party atmosphere, which means that you are sure to leave our London based blow dry bar, not only looking great but also ready to hit your party or event too.

Ideal for making sure that your nails are healthy and look their best, it is also great for those men that spend most of their time not taking good care of their hands or feet.

ascot hairstyles

The odds are high on these amazing Ascot Hairstyles

Here at Aer Blowdry Bar, we love welcoming in people who are looking to have their hair styled for a special event. For some, this could be a wedding, a party or perhaps even a day at the races. With Ascot Ladies Day just around the corner, we thought that we would dedicate this blog post to some amazing hairstyles that means that everyone can be a winner on the day. Or at least look like one!

One of the biggest issues with finding a hairstyle for Royal Ascot Day is that you are often going to need a hairstyle that is going to work with a fascinator or hat.

Here are some Ascot Hairstyles Ideas;

Plaits and braids

Ascot braid with Hat

A common misconception is that when you have a hat or fascinator to wear, that your hair needs to then be dull and boring underneath. This really isn’t true, in fact, we think that you can still have some drama and texture in your hair. Without detracting away from the style of your hairpiece. Why not rock some plaits or braids for the day? Not only does this look beautiful, but it will also help to keep your hair pinned back and out of the way.

Keep it sleek

If you are sporting a larger brimmed hat, then you are going to want to make sure that your hair is sleek and perfectly in place underneath. We like the idea of simply having your locks loose, perhaps with a blow dry.

However, another great option is to sweep it off your face with a low pony or a chignon. Essentially, the last thing that you are going to want is loads and loads of clips in your hair, as this will stop you feeling the need to fiddle with it during the day.

Up the style with an updo

Whilst a low chignon may be ideal for a hat, if you are rocking something smaller, then you can afford to go bigger with your hair. An updo such as a high, well-styled bun, not only looks thoroughly classy and elegant, but it also will stop your hair from becoming messy as the day goes on. Best of all, you can team this with a wide range of hats and fascinators, or even just a few simple flowers, to really create a picture-perfect look.

Thinking that you need a little help when it comes to achieving the ultimate Ascot look? If you are in the Kensington area, then why not come and see us here at aer Blowdry Bar. We are experts in working with a range of hair types, creating a look that is not only picture perfect, but great for a day at the races too. You can bet on that!

taker care of your hair on holioday

How to take care of your hair on holiday

When you are on holiday there is a good chance that the last thing that you are going to think about is looking after your hair. However, looking after your hair is something that you need to think of when you are away from home.

Sunshine, warm air, sand, sea and late nights, all of these things can have an impact on your hair. Here at Aer Blow Dry Bar we know exactly what it takes to make sure that your hair looks and feels its best, however, as much as we would like to come with you on holiday, there is no chance that we can fit in your suitcase.

So, what can you do to look after your hair yourself when you are on holiday?

We have put together our guide to the things to do alongside resting, relaxing and soaking up the sunshine.

Pack yourself a hair mask

If you are heading away for a week or two in the sunshine, then over the time your hair is going to get dry. In order to give it the nourishment that it needs and stop it going frizzy (and a little crazy) then the best thing to do is to pack yourself a hair mask. If you can try and apply every other day then your hair will thank you. Doing this also gives you the perfect excuse to sit down and read a book for half an hour.

Suggested: Kerastase Soleil Hair Mask (you can purchase this at our salon)

Wash your hair in cold water before you take a swim

There is plenty out there that says that cold water is good for your hair. However, this doesn’t always seem like an exciting prospect when you are at home. When you are on holiday though, and the sun is shining, it probably won’t seem as bad to dip your head in the cold water. The best time to wash in cold water is before you take a swim in the sea or pool. Your hair is only able to absorb so much water at one time, which means that if you have already washed it in cold water, then you will find that the pool water doesn’t take too much of an effect.

Avoid straighteners

Although you are going to want to make sure that your hair looks its best when you are on holiday, heat treatment isn’t likely to be the best idea for you. Straighteners, on top of already dry hair is going to be a bad mixture. Which is why so many people decide to let their hair be au natural when they are on holiday instead. Wash your hair as you would normally at home and then rough dry it before brushing it through with a smoothing cream. If you want to tie it up whilst it dries then a plait is the best idea as this will also give you a gentle wave when you undo it too.

Hopefully these top tips help your hair to look its best on holiday and make sure that you can concentrate on having fun 😉

festival hair

The very best of UK festival hair

Here at Aer Blow Dry Bar, we love nothing more than making sure that our client’s hair looks beautiful. No matter the client, no matter the hair type and no matter the occasion.

Despite loving working throughout the year, one of our favourite times of year has to be the festival season. Not only does festival season mean that the weather is starting to get warmer and a whole lot more inviting, but there are also a number of events going on which are a whole lot of fun.

festival hair

Fancy creating your own festival hairstyle?

Let’s take a look at the very best of UK festival hair

Pipe braids

Now, it is true that no festival look would be complete without some braids and this year it is the turn of the pipe braids. Fun, flirty and easy to style, we love the fact that these braids are super tight, which means that they shouldn’t fly away, even if you spend the night dancing away. We also love the idea of incorporating ribbons or threads into pipe braids, as they will give a beautiful and colourful look.

Wave goodbye to floral crowns

hair flowers

Whilst once upon a time floral crowns were the biggest thing in the festival scene, the same cannot be said for modern style. However, just because the floral crown is no more, that doesn’t mean that you can’t rock a spot of floral charm! Maybe just go for something small and understated, such as pins or clips rather than go for an all-out floral tribute.

Half up and half down

Whilst this hairstyle may remind us of our younger days, it is actually incredibly modern and right on trend for festival hair. You might want to only opt for this look for the first day, as time goes on your hair may start to look messy and windswept. Although, as time goes on, you could always bring the lower half back into a ponytail in order to keep it off your face.

Crimping

Now, we have to admit that we were slightly excited about the idea of this 80s trend making a comeback, after all, what could be more fun than rocking some crimped hair. If you are not a fan of the frazzled look, then you could instead create some mini plaits in your hair the night before and then in the morning, it will be beautifully crimped and not at all frizzy.

Pastel colours

Finally, we have more of a colour than a style. Festivals are a great excuse to grab out the exciting hair dye and giving yourself a new look. We love pastel colours, they are gentle but they are easy to maintain too.

If you are not sure that you can achieve these amazing results yourself, then why not book in to see us here at Aer Blow Dry Bar? We are experts in a range of different techniques and can make sure that you feel amazing, no matter where you are heading and no matter the look that you want to go for!

How to pick the best blow dry bar in London for your personal style

London is awash with places to go, new food to try, sights to see that you might have never seen, and places to go that you’ve wouldn’t have thought to go before. All of this is tied up in England’s busiest streets, filled with people going about their day. But have you ever clocked someone with beachy curls even in the middle of winter? Or that salon-fresh style that turns your head?

These individuals are reaping the benefits of London-based blow dry bars, a popular and specific type of salon that could be right up your alley. Of course, it is London, and there are so many salons and blow dry bars to choose from that you might find it a little overwhelming. We’re here to help you figure out what you should be looking for.

What to look for in a London-based blow dry bar

Blow dry bars have become very popular for people who want their hair washed and dried by professionals while being offered amazing service. You may be wondering what to look for in a London-based blow dry bar, well, let us help:

Excellent customer service is one of the most important things in any store or establishment that offers personalised services. With blow dry bars, you should be looking for a place with the satisfied smiles of customers who have been looked after and look great after their visit. Customer service starts when you first walk through their door and shouldn’t end until after your appointment is completely finished.

A blow dry bar should cater to your own personal style while being able to advise you if a look would or wouldn’t work for you. Blow dry bars are the perfect solution when you’re looking for a salon to use before a special occasion. They can make you feel proper pampered and comfortable with any style changes.

Any salon or blow dry bar worth its reviews can pull off any hairstyle, no matter how fiddley or complex. Their team should be full of professional stylists ready to handle your requests and get you ready for a special or fun day. From classy bouncy blow dries with rollers or brushes to edgy short pixie looks, London blow dry bars have you covered.

Stylists at blow dry bars should use modern techniques to help promote healthy hair. You should also be able to ask for tips to keep your hair healthy and full of life, even going as far as to ask for product recommendations.

But that’s still not enough. The salon atmosphere should be friendly and relaxed at all times. You should be able to sink into your seat feeling as chilled out as possible while chatting with your stylists about the day ahead.

Finally, check their reviews to see if the business is recommended, and have a chat with their team over the phone or on social media. We’re in an aging technology; a good salon can definitely keep up.

If you haven’t tried our Blow dry bar based in South Kensington we highly suggest to do so, we promise we will take care of you!

BEST OF THE GOLDEN GLOBES 2018

For those who missed anything related to the Golden Globes last Sunday, we thought to do a little recap for you! We absolutely loved the message of the entire event, the fact that the majority of A-list celebrities and influencers wore black to support the Time’s Up movement. Oprah’s speech was incredibly powerful and moving, so here’s to believing and hoping that we see change in 2018! It goes without saying that award season comes attached with some of the best hair styles, make-up and fashion looks. So here are some of our favourites! What are yours? We would love to know.

1 – Tie Me Up. Upstyles for hair are incredibly popular during award season. Whether it’s a low, messy bun with loose hair strands at the front or a sleek updo with a middle parting; we’ve got you girl! Recreate these looks with us at our London blow dry bar. Perfect for those with medium to long hair!

2 – Straight. We all know that straight hair never goes out of style. Whether you style it with a middle parting or side parting, you will always look timeless and elegant with straight hair. Why not mix it up and add a bit of volume to the ends or the roots by blowdrying it straight first?! Recreate this look with us for casual events, or simply as a mid-week pick-me-up!

3 – Timeless Waves. In recent years, we’ve seen big hair and waves make a comeback whilst straight hair isn’t the most popular. With lots of us trying to have it all – volume, curls/waves and thickness, the timeless blowdry is the perfect choice if you’re looking to recreate any of the below looks. If you prefer less volume and thinner curls, the curling wand is your best friend! However, if you’re the type of gal that prefers big, voluminous hair with thick big curls, then a big bouncy blowdry is all you need!

It’s always inspiring to see all the hair and make-up during award season and this was no different. At our Chelsea blow dry bar, we can recreate any of these looks for you, for any occasions you need. Additionally, we also offer beauty services; I mean, why only get a blow dry when you can also get a manicure?! And let’s not forget the amazing January offers! With the holiday season over and the blues upon us, it’s only fair you treat yourself and we spoil you! Check out our offers on our website. For more information regarding our services and availability, please email info@aerblowdrybar.com. Alternatively, you can book online or call us on 02072449499.

GOODBYE 2017… HELLO 2018!

As we wave goodbye to 2017 and welcome 2018, we wanted to recap and share with you some of our favourite hair and beauty moments which we hope inspire you for New Years Eve! Our London blowdry bar will be open from 10am till 7.30pm to get you gals ready from head to toe. From bouncy blowdries to upstyles for hair, eyebrow tinting to threading, lashes to manicures… we’ve got you covered! It’s only fair we shared some #nyeinspo with you before the big day, are you ready?!

1- The Classic Blowdry. The timeless blowdry that never goes out of fashion! Whether you have short hair, medium hair, are brunette or blonde, at our London blow dry bar we can recreate any of these gorgeous looks ensuring you leave looking and feeling like the best version of yourself on NYE (and every other day!)

2- Upstyles For Hair. If you’re the type of gal who regularly has amazing hair and gets blowdries often, you might want to step out of your comfort zone by opting for an updo. Upstyles for hair are ideal for those with medium to long hair, but here at aer we can make short hair work too! Why not mix it up and accessorise it out with sparkly hair accessories?!

3- Manicures On Manicures. We all know it, red resembles festive, as well as being a classic, all year-round nail colour. But that being said, red isn’t for everyone, especially if the nails clash with the outfit! Nudes are a safer option for those who haven’t decided what they’re wearing yet, so we’ve rounded up both of our favourites! Which one will you go for? At aer, we have a vast selection of colours that you’ll struggle to choose just one!

So these were some of our favourite 2017 looks which we predict are going to be a hit in 2018 too! We hope we’ve inspired you for NYE and can’t wait to welcome you at our Chelsea blow dry bar for a range of treatments! Whether it’s a quick pick-me-up blowdry, an upstyle for hair, a manicure, eyelash threading or tinting…we’ve got you girl! We can’t wait to see what you all look like on Sunday! If you’re getting ready with us at aer, don’t forget to tag those images for the chance to enter future giveaways and be featured on our Instagram page! Please email info@aerblowdrybar.com for more information on our services and availability. Alternatively, you can book online or call us on 02072449499. Wishing you all a great last week of 2017, and hope to see you on Sunday with a glass of bubbly in hand!

We’ve put together a few party make-up looks just to inspire you, we look forward to welcoming you to aer and recreating these looks for you!

NYE HAIR & MAKE UP IDEAS

With the holidays approaching as fast as they are, we couldn’t help but share our favourite hair and make up ideas for NYE, because you know how much we love to inspire you guys, right!? Our Chelsea blow dry bar is now taking bookings for Christmas and NYE, including in-store make-up services. You will be able to get fully dolled up with us, from start to finish… with a glass of bubbly in hand of course!

1 – Hair Ideas.

Are you after something understated yet something bold? If so, this upstyle for hair is right up your street! Back-comb it just the right amount to get that ‘messy’ effect. If you want to doll up even more, why not try a jewelled hairband to go with it? It’s the sparkly season after all! This hairstyle is perfect for those with medium to long hair!

We all love a good, simple blowdry. So if you’re the type of gal who loves dancing and her hair is always everywhere, this is the perfect style for you! Tuck one side behind your ear and bring as much hair as possible to one side if you want to look as chic as ever!

Got to love the messy braid! If you’re the sort of girl who likes having the majority of her hair down but want to achieve something different for these special festive days, then this may be the perfect look for you! Bring it to the side slightly to attract more attention to the hairstyle. You can also choose to have a middle or side parting for this!

It’s NYE, which means… Sparkle overload! Something so simple as this can go such a long way, attention to detail is everything and these are the little things people will notice! Why blend in when you can stand out? Sparkle as much as you can on your hairstyle!

2 – Make-Up Ideas.

Bolder on the eyes, softer on the lips and cheeks, perfect for both day and night parties!

Go bold or go home! A red lip never gets old. If you go for this shade, try and keep it softer in the eyes if you’re transiting from a day to night look!

Super bold. Definitely a ‘red carpet’ inspired look for those who attend huge parties which involve some serious gown dressing up! To enhance the look more, pull your hair back entirely and go crazy with the eyes and softer on the rest of your face!

The definition of understated. Because a lot of us gals still love the minimalistic look! Regardless of whether you’re attending a day or night event, a simple and minimal look never goes out of fashion.

At our London blow dry bar we can recreate it all the looks you’re inspired by to make you look and feel the best version of yourself this Christmas and New Years. Whether you’re looking to come in for a wash and blowdry, a mani pedi or for eyebrow threading, we’ve got you covered! We’re now taking bookings for Christmas and NYE, don’t miss out! Why get ready in bits when you can have it all under the same roof? To book, please email info@aerblowdrybar.com for more information on our services and availability. Alternatively, you can book online or call us on 02072449499.

RED CARPET MOMENTS. THE BRITISH FASHION AWARDS 2017

As you all know if you’ve been following us, is that we like to write and let our readers know about the latest events happening in London. We enjoy sharing the looks with you; whether it’s the style, the hair or the upstyles, we enjoy sharing what we were inspired by with all of you! Since award season is upon us, we thought we’d cover the British Fashion Awards which happened earlier this week. Keep reading to find out who some of our favourite ladies were in the red carpet!

1- Kaia Gerber. Kaia chose a very sleek hairstyle, having one side tucked behind her ear, accentuating the other side of her hair. She also chose to go for slight bouncy ends which we absolutely loved! This hairstyle can be perfect for all the upcoming Christmas do’s, so don’t miss out and book your place at our London blowdry bar!

2- Irina Shayk. Irina chose two different outfits, one for the actual red carpet and a second one for the afterparty. One thing that remained consistent was her updo! She chose upstyles for hair for both occasions which we absolutely loved! We’re obsessing over the high pony-tail which she could easily pull to the side as well as the messy high bun! This is ideal for medium to long hair, if you’re looking to keep your mane out of your face! Perfect updo for a New Years party we think?!

3- Charlotte Olympia. One of our favourite looks! Charlotte was the definition of glamorous at the awards! Her hairstyle was elegant, understated and classic. The perfect hairstyle for short to medium and long hair. Add a few sparkly accessories and you’re good to go this Christmas!

Feeling inspired?! Yes, we thought so! These hairstyles and upstyles for hair are perfect for the festive season, and our Chelsea blow dry bar has got you covered! Feel and look the best version of you this party season by getting ready with us and recreating some of these looks! To book, please email info@aerblowdrybar.com for more information on our services and availability. Alternatively, you can book online or call us on 02072449499.

Our beauty bar offers semi permanent lash extensions which last between 6-8 weeks. We also do cluster lashes which lasts 10 to 14 days… Say whaaaat?! If you’re going on holiday and need those lashes to look on point, we would highly recommend! Nobody wants to be putting on tons of mascara in the sun, so this is a great alternative option. Lastly, our beauty offers lash curl and lift services, both lasting from 6 to 8 weeks – just imagine, not having to wear mascara or worry about your lashes for 8 weeks! Heaven right!?

From dropping in for a quick ‘pick-me-up’ blowdry to spending the entire afternoon getting your brows, lashes and nails done, come and catch a breath of aer with us! With the party season round the corner, you’ll want to make a statement with those beautiful brows and lashes, and we’ve got you girl! To enquire more, please email info@aerblowdrybar.com for more information on our services and availability. NEW SEASON, NEW YOU!

As you all know, transitional periods can often be tricky. Whether it be a fashion style rut, or a hair style rut, they always seem to pop up during the transitional months. So our solution to overcome it is to give yourself some major TLC and pampering sessions! From treating yourself to a manicure in London, a wash and blow dry or simply to get your eyebrows tinted, here at aer we’ve got you covered! To get those of you who are in a transitional rut out of it, we have put together a series of autumn inspired looks which might just help you feel like yourself again… You know what they say, new season, new you!

1 – Switch it up. This is what a new season is all about. Different cuts, colouring and most importantly, styling! It’s always fun to switch it up and style your hair differently; and what better time to do it than during a transitional period? Mix it up by creating messy waves with subtle braids or a top knot, you will look très chic!

2 – Manicure Mondays… and everyday! Nothing screams ‘new you’ more than a fresh manicure. In our blow dry bar in Chelsea, we offer a variety of brands and we know how important it is to have a tidy up once in a while! For transitional periods, we opt for bolder colours which we love!

So… whether you’re looking for a little pampering session or a quick pick-me-up, we’ve got you covered at aer. We can make you feel and look like you are no longer in a rut! All of these looks can be recreated with us, please email info@aerblowdrybar.com for more information. Alternatively, you can book online or call us on 02072449499. THE ORIGINAL SUPERMODELS… A THROWBACK TO THE 90’S

If you’ve been following the shows during Fashion Week in Milan, then you will know Donatella Versace’s show left us all rather nostalgic. She brought back the ‘original’ supermodels from the 90’s and it was so exciting to see them walk the runway together again! Since this week’s post is all about throwbacks, we thought we’d put together some of the best looks and hairstyles those original 90’s models once rocked.

1 – Naomi Campbell. O M G – her mane! Regardless of the hair length or style, she always managed to pull it off. From 20’s soft waves to 90’s straight hair obsession, there’s no doubt Naomi looked amazing in all hairstyles.

2 – Claudia Schiffer. From major highlights to layers, her hair always looked gorgeous! The full fringe was her staple look in the 90’s, as well as a messy updo, which, regardless how messy it was, always looked so glam.

3 – Cindy Crawford. Definitely our favourite model of the 90’s! With such beautiful and versatile hair, Cindy rocked some of the best laid-back hairstyles in the 90’s. From messy backcombed hair to tight waves, she always pulled off the styles and looked as chic as ever.

One thing we feel regardless of the time that has passed, is that these hairstyles can definitely be recreated with a twist now. Get any of the 90’s inspired look with us at our London blow dry bar. From upstyles to bouncy blowdries, we’re here to help you achieve the look you want! Please email info@aerblowdrybar.com for more information. Alternatively, you can book online or call us on 02072449499. Visit our website for more info on the services and products we provide – www.aerblowdrybar.com.

RUNWAY HAIR TRENDS: LFW RECAP

As London Fashion Week comes to an end, we’ve decided to share our favourite looks straight from the runway! From intricate braids to sleek updos, we’ve put together a few of the most inspirational runway hair styles, all of which can be achieved at our London blow dry bar!

1 – Braid Alert. Preen and Bora Aksu are amongst the designers who chose braids for their SS18 shows at LFW. The variation in braided hairstyles shows how creative you can get with your braids and there is no reason for them to be boring! Whether it’s a low messy braid or a subtle one wrapped around your low bun, you can rest assured that you will look chic regardless.

2 – Sleek updos. Can these ever look bad? We don’t think so! At our blow dry bar in London we love upstyles. They’re easy to achieve and instantly elevate your look. If you’re attending an event, we personally love the last two! Naeem Khan and Jeremy Scott chose the below sleek updos for their runway shows.

3 – Wave it up. Remember the days where only straight hair would debut the catwalks?! Well, those days are long gone! Messy waves are a favourite amongst hairstylists and this is no different for runway shows. Mix it up by adding subtle braids in between your waves or creating an edgy look with a wavy fringe – no doubt that will speak for itself! Adam Selman and Jill Stuart ensured their models’ hair game was strong during the shows, and they definitely didn’t disappoint!

Preparing For London Fashion Week, September ’17

September is officially here, and we all know what that means! Fashion month craze is once again upon us. The best part about Fashion Week is all the pampering and ‘treating yourself’ you can actually get to do. With shows starting remarkably early and continuing through the entire day, it’s the perfect opportunity to get your hair, nails and lashes done! To make it easier for you to achieve these looks, we’ve recapped some of the best street styles from NYFW that we hope to be recreating for you in our London blow dry bar this week!

1 – Soft Waves. Probably one of the biggest hair trends right now. Ideal for short, mid and long hair, this hairstyle won’t disappoint. It elevates the entire look and gives you that glam feel! The soft waves are incredibly versatile too and if you’re the type of girl looking to keep hair off your face during shows, a half-up messy bun also looks chic with this hairstyle.

2 – Straight Blow Dry. One of the easiest looks to achieve – a sleek, straight blow dry! Straight hair will never go out of style, so if you are looking for something simpler and faster to achieve, this is definitely your go to look! Mix it up by elevating the look with a little bit of volume and trying out different partings.

3 – Sleek Updo. One of the key parts of Fashion Week is to feel comfortable whilst looking all chic and glam at the same time. If you ask us, the easiest way to achieve this is by creating a sleek updo! Whether it’s a ponytail or a messy bun, upstyles are a major trend right now ideal for mid and long hair.

Whether you are looking to come in first thing in the morning or during show breaks for a ‘pick-me-up’, here at aer we’ve got you covered! We are open from 7:30am till 7:30pm, making it convenient for you to get the complete LFW look at our blow dry bar in Chelsea, not having to worry about doing it yourself! I mean, why not catch a breath of aer during the craziness of Fashion Week?!

Summer Loving… For Your Hair

During these summer months, hair naturally gets drier and needs a bit of TLC. With braids, pinning and lots of heat to create perfect curls, it’s important to look after your hair as much as possible. Getting rid of the glitter and removing the stubborn dents will need more than a quick wash, and this would be the ideal time to come in to our blow dry bar in London for one of our hair treatments.

Before a blowdry, you can indulge yourself with a personalised Kerastase Fusio Dose or Oribe hair treatment. We also offer Olaplex, the infamous hair treatment that repairs colour treated, damaged or brittle hair.

We’ve come up with five ways you can look after your hair at home in the summer months before coming in for a much deserved treatment!

1. Get that shine back

Use a protein-based moisturising treatment at least once a week. This will restore moisture and elasticity.

2. Protect your scalp

If you find that your scalp is dry and flaky, sunburn and dehydration are both possible causes. By wearing a hat in the sun and applying suntan lotion to the skin on your parting, this can help relieve dryness and itchiness. Massaging coconut oil and leaving on overnight can also help.

3. Make that snip

With split ends, there is no way to get rid of them other than cutting them off. Being in the sun, swimming and using heat on your hair are all causes but with regular conditioning treatments and trims every six weeks, split ends are less likely to occur.

4. Moisturise!

If you’ve noticed your hair isn’t at it’s healthiest, moisturising is crucial. Sun-damaged hair needs a lot of attention and a concentrated hair-conditioning treatment or mask can make all the difference. Leave in for a few minutes and rinse for soft, shiny locks.

5. Be gentle

Brushing out your hair roughly and not being gentle with it is another way that hair can get damaged really quickly. Things like using a wide-toothed comb on wet hair, applying a leave-in detangler and sleeping in a silk hair cap or on a silk pillow are additional things you can do to keep your hair healthy on holiday.

At our blow dry bar in London we will be happy to give your hair the love and attention it needs. As well as blowdries and cuts, we also offer a range of haircare treatments and we’d be happy to help you find the right one for you at our London blow dry bar. Please email info@aerblowdrybar.com for more info.

Festival Season: Hair Inspiration

Summer is finally here and one of the best things about the sunny season is the festivals we get to attend. It’s the perfect opportunity to add some sparkle and creativity to your usual hair and make-up look: think glitter, braids and all things floral. Glastonbury cements the start of festival season for us, and we’ve got so many others to look forward to. Our favourite thing? Creating a great look. Although we pride ourselves on being a blow dry bar in London, we also offer braids, tinting, lashes and nails. Basically, you can get your entire festival look created at aer.

We’re mostly drawing our inspiration from two of our favourites: Coachella and Glastonbury. At these festivals, you’re guaranteed to see some exciting fashion and beauty moments and there’s no better time to try out some experimental beauty looks. For the ultimate festival look during festival season, we’ve rounded up some incredible styles from bold and beautiful to simple and sophisticated. For the ultimate blow dry in Kensington, come and visit aer. We’d be happy to create any of the looks below for you, or any others that you’d like to try!

This up-do from Taylor Hill means the focus is on the other details like her jewellery and floral dress. It’s a great, simple look – perfect for keeping your hair out of your face in the heat, but still very stylish.

For the sleek look, Olivia Culpo has nailed it. With simple straight hair and white nails, this look is clean and fresh. Not always your typical festival look but one that we really love!

No festival look is really complete without a beautiful braid! At our braid bar, it’s styles like these from Chanel and Josephine that give us inspiration to create a perfect look, ideal for summer and great for giving your hair a break from tongs and straighteners if you’re looking to avoid heat!

At our blow dry bar in London we will be happy to accommodate your festival hair needs wherever possible! As well as braids, blowdries and upstyles, we also offer a range of beauty treatments from threading and lashes to manicures and treatments. Please email info@aerblowdrybar.com for more info.

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day celebrates social, political, economic and cultural achievement of women.  To celebrate we wanted to share with you some of the women that inspire us at aer blow dry bar.

Emma Watson

Best known for her role as Hermione in Harry Potter, Emma Watson has certainly come of age with her extensive work and awareness for women’s rights, championing the brilliant He for She campaign and her speech at the UN.  In a recent interview with Vanity Fair she says,  “I couldn’t care less if I won an Oscar or not if the movie didn’t say something that I felt was important for people to hear.” Read more here.

At our blow dry bar in London our fave Emma Watson hair moment is her halo braid at the recent Beauty & the Beast Premiere in London;

Frida Kahlo

Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo from the early twentieth century is still admired as a feminist icon.  She was viewed by many as a female icon of creativity and her signature headdresses are still recognised today and have inspired many.

Our fave hair moment in her classic floral headdress;

Beyonce

We couldn’t mention International Women’s Day without mentioning the Queen B, Beyonce.  Known for her powerful stage presence often used to promote women and their rights, Beyonce consistently lifts women up though her music and memorable performances.

Our fave hair moment at our London blow dry bar is Queen B sporting her natural hair at Glastonbury festival 2011;

Winnie Harlow

Canadian model Winnie Harlow is known for having a form of the skin condition vitiligo, and has landed many notable fashion campaigns – her unique look challenges perceptions of beauty in an industry so obsessed with image.   Winnie has shared that she is proud of her skin and has said there is no reason to fit into preordained moulds, “there is beauty in everything.”

Our fave hair moment;

The Hadid sisters

The Hadid sisters have taken the fashion world by storm are here to stay!  With both carving out successful modelling careers in their own rights, they are certainly making a name for themselves within the fashion world and beyond.  Bella Hadid is also a spokesperson for Global Lyme Alliance after contracting Lyme disease as a teenager, whilst Gigi Hadid is an ambassador for Reebok and headed the #PerfectNever campaign alongside feminists Lena Dunham and Ruby Rose to name a few. Both have also developed their own fashion lines, with Gigi’s second collection Tommy X GiGi Spring ’17 recently showcased in LA.

Our favourite hair moments are when they are seen with contrasting hair styles- Bella’s hair is often styled with a slicked back middle parting whereas Gigi sports braids or loose hair waves;

Meet the team: five minutes with…

We’re chatting with another of our London blow dry bar team members this month, introducing our fabulous stylist Marta! We take five minutes out at our blow dry bar in London to ask Marta a few questions;

Hi Marta, why did you want to work in the hair industry?

I always had an interest in hair and a natural grasp for it.  I picked up blow dry styling techniques quickly and started when I was fairly young so have had a lot of practice and have learnt loads along the way.

What do you enjoy about working at aer?

There is a nice balance in the salon between clients and staff, and there’s always someone to chat to! With it being a blow dry bar Kensington store there’s a great buzz in the area with something new always going on.  For instance from this Friday we have a brilliant pop up event with Adeela Salehjee for cashmere clothing running until Sunday and our up styles for hair that we offer incorporating fresh flowers are so much fun to create.  There’s always something different and exciting happening!

Instagram @aerblowdrybar, up style for hair with fresh flowers for You & Your Wedding magazine

Would you share one of your go-to styling tips with us?

Instead of your standard wash and blow dry, plait your hair whilst still damp and leave overnight or until the hair dries.  When you wake up in the morning let it loose and you will have gorgeous texture and body to your hair.  This is a great technique to use before a fashion show or shoot to add more structure to the hair.

What other beauty treatments are popular at aer?

We offer a range of beauty services; eyebrow tinting and threading are popular and we have newly introduced a lash bar at our London blow dry bar which is exciting.  It’s great because clients can book in for eyelash tinting or another of our treatments and add onto that a lash extension treatment too!

The Opening of AER Blowdry Bar at Old Brompton Road, London, Britain on 15 Jul 2015.

Who would be your dream client?

I don’t really have one!  Styling everyday clients’ hair whether that be a wash and blow dry or upstyles for hair is always my preference as you meet so many interesting people especially at our blow dry Kensington store.

The Opening of AER Blowdry Bar at Old Brompton Road, London, Britain on 15 Jul 2015.

Some quick fire questions to finish off;

Perfect holiday destination?

Thailand, the chilled vibes there would be everything!

Last film you watched?

A comedy- Bad Moms with Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell.

Favourite time of the year?

I love Autumn and Halloween is great fun, I love dressing up with the kids!

Thank you Marta for taking the time out at our busy blow dry bar in London and we’re excited to share more interviews with you all soon. Have a lovely week!

Autumn Favourites

As the leaves start to fall and our warm coats are dug out, we can start to look forward to chilly days out and cosy nights in with our Autumn favourites. We’re sharing five of our luxury fashion and beauty Autumn staples that will help us embrace the colder months ahead!

  1. Over-the-Knee Boots

No one does elegant over the knee boots quite like Stuart Weitzman. The ‘Highland’ style boot, extremely popular with those in the fashion industry is a key footwear addition to your wardrobe – and here’s why.  Made from sumptuous suede in an array of colours (we particularly love the dove grey) the boots are beautifully made with a tighter fit around the leg for maximum flattery!  Despite the hefty price tag we can guarantee it’ll be worth it with this versatile style suiting a jeans and jumper combo just as much as with skirts or dresses. Dress up or down we guarantee you’ll get plenty of wear out of these statement boots this season! Check them out here as well as the matching ‘Lowland’ style and newly introduced ‘Tieland’ style.

2. The Chunky Knit

No Autumnal wardrobe is complete without the ultimate chunky knit. We admit, it can take a while to find “the one” but aim for neutral colours in creams, camel or black for maximum wearing potential! Having said this, also consider pink which has been a growing colour trend this season for knitwear.

Meet the team: five minutes with…

It’s time for another of our Meet the Team: five minutes with series, and this month we’re chatting with one of our brilliant stylists Amir. Lets get started!

Tell us a bit about what it’s like working for aer?

My colleagues make it the most fun as we’re all part of a strong team.  The style of the store and atmosphere make it a really welcoming place to work.  It’s great meeting different people throughout the day too.

image2-2

What attracted to you working in the hair industry?

I have a huge passion for hair and style. I love the power we have to change someone’s image and create something new and exciting for them.  You never get bored in this industry!

What hair trends are you loving at the moment?

Braids are such a big trend and are transitioning from Summer to Autumn/Winter styles at the moment which is cool to see.  I also like hair that has a lot of natural movement to it, you have much more freedom with more hair to play with.

Celeb hair crush?

Actress Julianne Moore, she always looks so elegant and has gorgeous auburn/red hair.  Her style history at the Golden Globes is beautiful, she always looks amazing!

julianne-moore1

julianne-moore-golden-gobes-gi

What are some of your top hair care tips?

I would recommend using Parabon free shampoos and conditioners.  Hair masks are great to revitalise the hair- use the night before an event or after a stressful week.  You can never have enough moisturising products and when possible I’d suggest making the most of the in salon treatments offered such as hair masks.  Here at aer we offer the Kerastase 5 minute Fusio-Dose which is offers an instant boost for your hair.

Fave aer blowdry?

The London, it makes your hair gorgeously soft and has a nice body to it.

5

Dream getaway destination?

Tibet or India – just for all the incredible colours!

London?

I like West London for it’s greenery and it’s a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle – there are lots of relaxed pubs and parks.

Must watch film?

Stalker directed by Tarkovsky is a psychological thriller film, perfect for Halloween!

Thank you to Amir for taking the time out for this interview, you can check out the rest of our Meet the Team series here.

Prada

It was all about thick brows at the Prada show and a very natural makeup look by Pat McGrath.

Moschino

Jeremy Scott channelled Barbie girls from the 90s as the vibe for his show. We’re talking contouring, false lashes, big lips, blonde wigs!

Fendi

Inspired by Marie Antoinette, the Fendi show was all about opulence and glamour.  Models sported sparkly lips and cat eye eyeliner.

Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini

Light makeup with speckles across the nose and cheeks enhanced the bohemian theme of the show.

Paris

We can expect a chic sophistication from the Paris shows, think understated glamour and effortless hair and makeup. Even Kim Kardashian West, barely seen without full make up from her trusted ‘glam squad’ went bare faced at the Balenciaga show!

Etam

The soft plaited pigtails at Etam portrayed an effortless style with a gentle blush on the cheeks offering a cute rosy glow.

Dries Van Noten

Dries Van Noten presented a more angular, sharp aesthetic with side parts by Sam McKnight and M.A.C Taupe shadow on the eyes. Veiling and sunglasses were also worn as key accessories, with the set design consisting of iced flowers by floral artist Azuma Makoto, models walking past blocks of large ice containing flowers. Only a spritz of Evain was used on the hair to keep the look natural.

Acne

Acne went for a moodier tone.  Make up artist Aaron de Mey opted for MAC Deep Rooted lipstick with a lavendar colour palette.  Poker straight hair added to the moody theme of the show.

Here we see another “no make up” makeup look – definitely a trend emerging here!  Peter Phillips used Dior Forever Foundation and a balm to the eyelids.  Hair stylist Guido Palau French braided buns and top knots.

Meet the team: five minutes with…

We’re excited to introduce another member of our team as part of our ‘Meet the team’ series.  This month we’re chatting with our stylist Valentino, we hope you guys enjoy this interview!

Why did you want to work in the hair industry?

I always had a passion for fashion and hair design since I was a kid- when I was a child I remember that I was looking at people and imagining them with a different outfit and hairstyle.  When I was 17 I decided to leave the school and start working as a hairdresser. I didn’t care about having a degree or a masters; I wanted to be an artist. I knew from the first day at work that working in the hair industry would be what I would do for the rest of my life.  For me it’s an art, I love to be creative and express myself with it.

What do you enjoy about working at aer?

Aer is a really nice blowdry bar. I love the atmosphere in here…very relaxed…everyone is friendly and calm…the clientele are fantastic!  I love the team! Very professional, always with a smile on the face and always available to help each other…it’s what you call the “dream team”.  For me it’s the perfect place to work as I really enjoy styling hair.  Everyday it’s a pleasure to go to work!

What has been your favourite hair trend of the summer?

screen-shot-2016-09-28-at-11-43-50

I would say beach waves and also the sleek back and high ponytail has been my favourite hair trend this summer.

Dream client?

christina-aguilera

Christina Aguilera.

Number one hair care tip?

– Don’t overwash coloured hair (it can lose it’s sheen quickly with too much washing).
-Avoid very hot water, use shampoo on the scalp only, not on the ends of your hair.
-Brush your hair twice a day, from the bottom up.
-If your hair is damaged put a small amount of a good moisturising oil (pure oil) everyday on the ends.

What is your ideal way to spend a weekend in London?

I love food! So definitely a good restaurant (Italian possibly) to start with.  Mayfair is great to enjoy a good pre-party cocktail in one of many cocktail bars in the area.  If I’m in a dancing mood (always lol) in Kensington there are few places that I love. One of my favourite is “the roof gardens” in Kensington High Street.

Celeb hair crush?

Zayn Malik.

London Fashion Week SS17 Hair & Beauty Roundup

This week we’re rounding up our top hair and beauty looks at London Fashion Week SS17, next summer can’t come soon enough!

  1. Preen by Thornton Bregazzi
810-28

This trend certainly caught our eye, created by make up artist Val Garland with pressed flowers attached to the model’s faces, lips, neck and collarbones.  Light makeup and bushy brows made up the face. This new approach to body art is a beautiful way to style a bridal or festival look; we can see this taking off next season, so get your flower presser out!

2 . Temperley London

screen-shot-2016-09-20-at-13-52-52

Temperley showcased desert style beauty with their #TemperleyTribe.  Hairdresser Antonio Corral Calero for Moroccan Oil created beachy waves with centre partings.  Now there’s a tribe we wouldn’t mind being a part of!

3. Topshop Unique

screen-shot-2016-09-20-at-13-56-53

The Topshop show with famous faces such as Amber Le Bon, Ella Eyre and Ellie Goulding on the Frow is always one of the most highly anticipated shows in the London Fashion Week calendar and this year was no different. Models demonstrated a low key makeup vibe with light eyebrows, beautifully subtle eye shadows and lips in neutral nude colours.  Hair by Duffy was curled into Eighties tongs with lots of volume at the front.

4. Julien Macdonald

screen-shot-2016-09-20-at-14-01-36

The Julien Macdonald show is always a show stopper with sparkles, glitz and embellishment to be expected.  This season the show was opened by LA model Hailey Baldwin who wowed in sparkles.  Shimmer was the number one trend seen with glowing legs, St Tropez golden tans with wavy hair and smoky eye makeup by L’Oreal.

5. Mary Katrantzou

screen-shot-2016-09-20-at-14-10-42

Another LFW absolute favourite, we are always dazzled by Katrantzou’s explosions of colour, pattern and texture.  Lips popped with MAC’s bold shades and hair was loosely styled with light waves and the occasional “pink hair don’t care” vibe.

6. Simone Rocha

screen-shot-2016-09-20-at-14-16-14

James Pecis’s hair styling had a girly feel to it with youthful plaits in centre partings and exaggerated loose strands around the front of the face.  Bold lips and well groomed tinted eyebrows were on show.

7. Marc Jacobs

810-30

Fresh skin and false eyelashes were the order of the day at Marc Jacobs.  With an Eighties club kids theme, each model was fitted by Guido Palau with coloured wool dreads and makeup by Nars including shimmering eyeshadows to match the hair and outfits.

810-31

8. Erdem

With inspiration from a woman emerging from a ship wreck, the hair by Anthony Turner was plaited and twisted into pigtails before being wrapped together into an updo finished off with a long ribbon loosely tied at the back.

9. Sophia Webster

Swinging sixties were the inspiration for Sophia Webster’s Dolly Birds Of Paradise presentation.  Makeup by Maybelline was bold and colourful with statement sixties eye looks, long lashes and full volumous hair by Catwalk By TIGI.

10. Burberry

This show is the first time you can shop the Burberry collection straight off the catwalk afterwards; an exciting moment for the fashion house.  Make up by Wendy Rowe was stripped back with fresh skin and bold brows to reflect an androgynous feel.  Hair by Sam McKnight was also very natural with no styling products only water used for a “barely there” look.

Fashion

Fashion first, let us begin with Victoria Beckham.  The silhouettes for this latest collection have loosened up to create a more slouchy look to suit women of all shapes and sizes. According to Beckham speaking to Vogue it’s about softening up this season making clothes look effortless as if they have just been thrown on.

The beauty looks presented themselves in a contemporary, sleek and elegant way.

Green and blue slashes of eye shimmer were seen at Victoria Beckham, with make up artist Pat Mcgrathreal calling it the ‘modern wing’.

aer Travel: Lisbon

We recently visited Lisbon and wanted to share our top finds and must sees in Portugal’s capital as part of our aer Travel Guide.  We hope you enjoy!

Food

Time Out Food Market

IMG_0287

IMG_0468

If you don’t eat anywhere else on your trip, be sure to check out this heavenly market. With food stands collated together under the Time Out brand, there is so much choice.  You simply must try the homemade ice cream – the basil flavour is divine as well as the chocolate pavlova!  There are yummy burgers, an array of seafood choices,  specials such as pork belly with clams – unusual but delicious, as well as gorgeous flowers and a brilliant selection of fruit and veg or spices and other condiments to take home!

IMG_0277

Clube de Journalistas

IMG_0562

There are numerous restaurant choices but one of our favourites was Clube de Journalistas situated in it’s own private garden, the place was so enchanting.  Upon arrival we were welcomed with a glass of bubbles and lead to our table outside in the garden amongst the candle lit courtyard.  The menu was delicious and it is well worth a visit; it is hidden away you would not normally know it was there!  We left with gifts including complimentary tote bags and book marks which was a lovely surprise!

Pharmacia

IMG_0456

Another one to try is Restaurante Pharmacia whereby all the decor and interiors are based on a pharmacy, even the bill is presented in a test tube!  There is an eclectic menu choice or you can go for the surprise tasting menu option if you’re struggling to choose, just what the doctor ordered!

Art

Berardo Museum

IMG_0334

Home to one of the world’s most acclaimed modern art collections covering a range of contemporary movements from Surrealism to Abstract Expressionism, expect to see works by Dali, Pollock, Picasso and Warhol. Founded by Portuguese mogul, Joe Berardo to house his impressive collection, the museum opened in June 2007.

With free entry there are several floors portraying paintings, photography, sculpture and installations.

Belem Cultural Centre

IMG_0348

The city’s largest auditorium, art complex and host to international exhibitions  this centre is impressive to wonder around if only to marvel at the architecture.  Take some time out at the restaurant cafe on the first floor overlooking the river and with surrounding gardens.  There are often pop up cultural events and music such as live jazz to listen to in this area.  Everyone sits on the grass and enjoys the peaceful atmosphere.

IMG_0349

Sintra

IMG_0362

This magical town is a must-see on your trip to Lisbon.  Just 20 minutes in an Uber from Lisbon, Sintra is described as an adult’s fairytale with real life castles, turrets and stunning views.  The town itself has a wonderful charm with pretty shops, cafes and restaurants to wonder through.

IMG_0563

Visit Saudade cafe to enjoy authentic Portuguese food and relaxing atmosphere.  If you go for breakfast you will be treated to the most delicious warm homemade bread with melted butter, freshly pressed orange juice, granola and natural yogurt, cappucinos and in case you’re still hungry Portugese tarts!

IMG_0357

Pena Palace

IMG_0381

IMG_0387

Once you have explored the town head on upwards to discover the Romanticist Pena Palace on top of the Sintra mountains.   To reach this national monument you can take a touk touk, taxi, bus or if you’re feeling energetic it’s an hour walk up the hillside, but believe us the trek will be well worth it!

IMG_0366

You are welcomed into the grounds of Pena with tree lined pathways where you can stroll around the magnificent gardens encountering lakes with black swans and duck houses, a meditation garden and smaller tiled temples.  The stunning palace is like something you would see in a film, with it’s intricate tiles, incredible views, brightly coloured walls and unique carvings – we even saw a crocodile head protruding from one of the walls!

IMG_0405

IMG_0390

IMG_0368

Beach

The Praia do Carcavelos is the most popular beach of Lisbon and is packed during the summer months.

Carcavelos is situated halfway between Lisbon and Cascais and is served by the Cascais railway so is easily accessible from Lisbon and the surrounding areas.  The waves are good enough to surf or body-board or why not give that a go whilst you’re there!

Markets

IMG_0425

There are lots of markets to discover selling homemade soaps, sardines in the most beautiful packaging, pottery, vintage clothes, ceramics, books, handmade jewellery and vinyl and old school CDs.  Several to mention include the Feira da Ladra market translating to ‘thieves fair’, the oldest flea market in Lisbon specialising in antiques, and the LX Factory held on a Sunday along the main street every week, more popular with the younger generation of Lisbon it’s great for people watching!

Nightlife

IMG_0439

If you’ve visited London’s Pergola rooftop bar, then we have found Lisbon’s equivalent – Park Bar.  Situated on top of a rooftop carpark this quirky on-trend cocktail bar is perfect for a quick drink before dinner, be sure to catch the sun set and amazing city views.  A place popular amongst both locals stopping by for a drink after work and tourists sampling the delicious cocktails there is a relaxed ambience and chilled out vibe.

IMG_0433

If you’re up for a late night,  Urban Beach is your one stop party destination! Step into this Ibiza style club with incredible lighting, special effects and sound system with outside pool area. However you may need a power nap- the club doesn’t get going until about 3am!

IMG_0321

Everywhere you look in this city there is a picutre postcard moment, from the colourful buildings, trams and tiles around every corner! Whether it’s a weekend break or something more, Lisbon has so much to offer you will be spoilt for choice! If you visit be sure to let us know if you went to any of the above or share with us your top tips for where to go in the city, we’d love to hear them!

IMG_0217

Why did you want to work in the hair industry?

I enjoy the styling element of hair so much and being able to make someone feel different and give them a transformation after one appointment is amazing. It’s great seeing the before/after with clients. There is lots of creativity in this industry as there is so much you can do with hair! I’m also excited by fashion and bridal editorials and the unique hair and makeup trends that are showcased.

What do you enjoy most about working at aer?

We have such lovely clients as well as the friendly team make it a fun place to work. There are always lots of different people who come into the salon to meet too!

What’s your favourite aer blowdry style?

The Dubai style for its big bouncy hair and glamorous vibe.

image

What’s your hair trend of the summer?

Waves and braids! Waves in the hair are ideal for days at the beach or summer nights. Braids are great too and they’ve had a real revival over the past few years which is fun to see!

Celeb hair crush?

Beyoncé – her hair is always on trend whilst still being able to do something imaginative and different with her look. She’s a hair style icon!

image

What’s your number one hair care tip?

I like to wrap my hair in a silk scarf to stop shredding and losing its blowdry shape overnight. The silk also doesn’t rub the hair either. I would also recommend using coconut oil as a moisturiser for the hair – it’s also brilliant for the skin and cooking! Purchase here.

Did you know at aer we offer the option of hiring out the salon for you and your friends to enjoy?   This is great if you’re looking to take your time with your pampering and enjoy a morning or afternoon getting ready together in a big girly group! Also it’s the perfect way to start your hen party off before heading elsewhere.

Everyone enjoying their hen treatments and chatting away!

Play music and hang out at the salon whilst sipping on champagne and take lots of fun photos to remember the big day.  We would recommend investing in an Instax polaroid camera so you can snap lots of instant photos of the day, and display them in an album afterwards to pass on to the bride-to-be.  Pick up yours here.

You are welcome to bring your own food too. Why not order some of the local Hummingbird Bakery’s delicious treats or a cake from Patisserie Valerie? We can also provide make up services too, please email info@aerblowdrybar.com for more details.

Games

Fun games ideas include each hen preparing a memory they have about the bride-to-be- this is then read out to the group, and the bride-to-be has to guess who has read the story! Should she guess wrong, there will be a fun forfeit!

The Mr & Mrs Quiz is also a great game to play and involves the bride-to-be answering questions about her fiancé; again forfeits are required if she guesses wrong.  Be as risqué with the questions as you dare!

We also love the idea of presenting your hens with a Survival Kit Goodie Bag to include painkillers for the inevitable hangover the next day, energy bars, naughty knickers and party poppers to name just a few hen essentials!  Check out Tiger for more fun ideas.

Why did you want to work in the hair industry?

Creativity, someone’s hair says a lot about them, often being a key part of their identity.  It is wonderful to see the change in seeing a client walk in to the salon to when they walk out with their hair transformed- they look revived and ready to take on the day.  Working at aer allows me to see all sorts of hair trends and styles and we are constantly evolving our looks to create on-trend and beautiful blowdries and up-styles.

In 10 years time where do you see yourself in your career?

We’ll just have to wait and see!

If you could style anyone’s hair who would be choose?

Jennifer Lopez.  She has had an incredible career ranging from singing and dancing to acting, and it would be so exciting to meet her. Her style is fearless and she isn’t afraid to push the boundaries or try something different.  Jennifer’s hair colour is beautiful complimenting her complexion perfectly, and it always looks in such good condition.

There is nothing more relaxing than visiting an exhibition and switching off from the world outside, we hope these will inspire you to do the same! Plan your evenings and weekends to take in some art and discover something new.

Georgia O’Keeffe – 6 July -30 October ’16 – Tate Modern

Georgia O’Keeffe White Flower No. 1, Image credit: tate.org.uk

The late American artist Georgia O’Keeffe is well known for her abstract flower forms – they are often considered shocking and vibrant expression of femininity. Her work is abstract but always emotional and deeply human.
Keeffe is considered America’s first great modernist painter, using explosions of colour and nature as a spring board to express ideas and emotions.

Explore this exhibition to see the language of emotion through Keeffe’s drawing and painting.  London’s Tate Modern is now holding a major retrospective of her work.  With no other British exhibitions of O’Keeffe’s artwork this is a rare opportunity to see her work.

“Men put me down as the best woman painter.  I think I’m one of the best painters.” Georgia O’Keeffe

David Hockney 82 Portraits and 1 Still Life – Royal Academy -2 July – 2 October ’16

One of the biggest shows of the year, British artist David Hockney is not to be missed.  The Yorkshireman’s subjects for this exhibition are friends and acquaintances painted whilst in LA, a place he has used many times before as inspiration for his art. In this exhibition each work is the same size and with the same background, however there is something about this uniformity that brings the exhibition together seamlessly. Due to it’s popularity booking is essential even if you are a Friend (membership card holder).

There is something exciting about not knowing what to expect room to room and the variety of work on display is astounding.   From video installations to beautiful sculptures to minuscule paintings – this exhibition covers the quirky to the beautiful all within one exhbition. With over 1,200 works, most of the pieces are available for sale – what a fantastic chance to collect a piece that could be by the next big artist, you never know!

aer Travel: Mallorca

London may be in the middle of a heatwave, but that hasn’t stopped us dreaming of jetting off to relax poolside or sunbathe on the beach!  Holiday season is here and we want to introduce our travel guide to some of our favourite summer destinations.

Screen Shot 2016-07-20 at 11.13.36

First up, as part of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, Mallorca.  Just under 2 hours from London, Mallorca is an ideal getaway for a long weekend or summer holiday.   This beautiful island has a rustic charm largely unspoilt by commercial growth and tourism you’re more likely to find on mainland Spain.  To really get to know the island we would recommend hiring a car giving you freedom to explore.  The beauty of Mallorca is discovering it’s hidden beaches and coves along the coastline and stopping off as you please.

cove

One of Mallorca’s many hidden coves & beaches.

Allow a day visit to the capital city of Palma where there is plenty to see.  La Seu is situated in the city’s old quarter and is Palma’s most famous cathedral with architect Gaudi being part of it’s restoration.  Step inside to enjoy a moment’s calm and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Le Seu Cathedral, Image credit: p-robinson.com.

This beautiful building overlooks the Parc de la Mer where you can wonder around the lake or people watch on one of the benches.  If you’re seeking something more lively the city’s old quarter offers a range of shops, cafes and squares to enjoy whilst wondering through winding lanes and streets, they even have a Sephora so stock up on your beauty must haves!  If you want more art and culture, there is a foundation dedicated to the artist Joan Miro who spent the best part of 30 years living in Mallorca, just west of Palma, and you can also see one of his murals close by to Le Seu.  There are also several other art galleries featuring Spanish artists and contemporary art.

Port d’Andratx is a glamorous port west of the capital Palma, and is the perfect spot for evening drinks and watching the boats on the waterfront.  There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from to soak up the relaxing atmosphere.

Beautiful corners of Deia

Another special spot on the island is the secluded beach of Cala Deia, with clear blue waters and rock pools surrounded by rocky coves.  A favourite with the locals as well as tourists don’t expect sandy beaches, instead plenty of rocks but this is all part of it’s charm!  There is a restaurant called Ca’s Patro right on the cliffside overlooking the entire cove, well worth a stop off for lunch whilst enjoying the views -book in advance during the summer season.

Other day trips on the include Soller near the north west coast of Mallorca famous for its orange groves and terraces of ancient olive trees and Pollenca in the North of the island which has the most breathtaking mountain and sea views.

We hope this post has inspired you to do some further research into Mallorca or even book a trip!  We can imagine that you won’t be disappointed by its charm, beautiful scenery of coves and mountains and unspoilt rustic beaches!

Meet the team: five minutes with…

In addition to blowdries, aer also offers a choice of beauty treatments including manicures, eyebrow threading and tinting for brows and lashes.  So this week on aer diaries we catch up with aer’s beautician Jeet as part of our Meet the team: five minutes with… series.  We take some time out with Jeet to talk all sorts from manicures to favourite getaway destinations. Let’s get started!

What is the best thing about working at aer?

I’d say my favourite thing is meeting the clients and getting to know them better. I find aer a very calming place to work; it’s a peaceful space away from the hustle and bustle of the Old Brompton Road where you can chill out and enjoy the contemporary interiors and atmosphere. Clients often comment on this, saying they enjoy this experience just as much as the treatments themselves.

IMG_8101

The entrance to aer on the Old Brompton Road, Kensington.

Why did you want to become a beautician?

I have always loved all things beauty so becoming a beautician seemed like the next step.  Also the opportunity to meet and talk to different people has always appealed to me.

As you know at aer we use both Essie and CND nail polishes, what are your top colour picks for each?

In the Essie range I love the A-list and Aperitif colours- both are gorgeous reds. Perfect to be worn on a night out or a great colour for work, they go with everything!

In the CND range the equivalents are Wildfire and Hollywood – what great names they have too!

For those who enjoy shellac manicures on a regular basis, what can you recommend to maintain strong and healthy nails?

I would say use a nail hardener treatment on your nails regularly. O.P.I have a good selection of protective treatments.

What are the benefits of the threading and tinting treatments at aer?

Tinting is great before you’re heading off on holiday and you don’t want the burden of worrying about makeup. It also helps to define the face better and really opens up the eyes.

Threading is a very cost effective treatment as it lasts 3 weeks which is ideal for women on the go.

Hair up or down?

Sometimes down but mostly up.  With my job it is easier when my hair is off my face.

image1 y-3

Lovely Jeet at aer.

Dream client?

Deepika Padukone, she is a beautiful Indian film actress who has an established career in Hindi films.  She always looks so glamorous and I love her elegance.

Actress Deepika Padukone.  Image credit: Pinterest.

Favourite movie?

I like Indian movies, the costumes can be fantastic -one of my favourites is Bajirao Mastani which is dramatic love story.

What’s your favourite thing about London in the summer?

It’s fabulous to be able to dress up more in the city over the summer. I love being experimental with fashion in warmer weather and getting my sandals out and painting my nails too!

What do you do to relax/de-stress?

Escaping hectic London when I get the chance is the perfect way to unwind for me. One of my favourite places to go is Scotland. I adore the Scottish countryside but also find Edinburgh beautiful.

Thank you to Jeet for taking the time to feature on our Meet the team: five minutes with series. Stay tuned for our next interview soon!

Wimbledon Whites

Wimbledon is upon us and we’re just as excited to see the fashion and hair styles off court as we are on! With the traditional ruling of players required to wear whites at London’s SW19, this trend is often seen in the crowds too. After months of hiding behind dark coats and scarves wearing white can seem like a bold move, but with the weather warming up we’re excited to share how it can be a great way to mix up your style.

Jeans.

White jeans can sometimes get a bad rep, but this needn’t be the case! White makes colours pop so why not team your jeans with a brightly coloured or patterned top. Heels are a great way to elongate your legs and dress up your outfit. Or pair down with sandals, a simple vest top and pony tail for a more casual option. To make more of a statement go for a white top too, just make sure you mix up the textures to break up the colour. Opt for a bouncy blowdry for the ultimate in glamour!

The Suit.

Who says white has to be reserved for sundresses and kaftans? There is nothing more chic than a beautiful tailored white suit. If you’re not so keen on dresses this is a wonderful alternative to wear to a summer party or event, you will certainly stand out from the crowd and for all the right reasons!  Plus your legs won’t get chilly later on! Think poker straight hair for your blowdry portraying a more contemporary look.

Sandals.

If wearing white clothing isn’t for you, why not try it on your feet instead?  We love these River Island clogs, they’d be perfect for a night out or on holiday combined with soft beach waves in your hair, think boho vibes.

The Shirt.

Last but not least there’s the classic white shirt.   No woman’s wardrobe should be without one! Team with jeans for a dressed down look- we are loving khaki trousers at the moment too, or add some bold accessories and strappy heels to take you into the evening.  JCrew, Cos and & Other Stories have a great selection.  The white shirt should be a wardrobe staple, and when combined with soft hair waves you’ll ooze effortless style.

We hope this post inspires you to introduce summer whites into your wardrobe, even if it is only through your choice of footwear.  A hint of white can go a long way! If you’re glued to Wimbledon this year, enjoy the matches as well as the celeb style spotting!  Come and see us for your Wimbledon blowdry too – we are open 7 days a week, give us a call on 020 7244 9499 or book online here.

As hippies and music lovers flock to Somerset for the start of Glastonbury today, we’re sharing our festival survival guide.  Whether you’re setting up camp in a muddy field or are more of the glamping type, we hope these tips will come in handy when packing your essentials.  Four days without a shower will seem like a total breeze after you’ve read our top ten tips

1. Braids. Plaits or braids are definitely having their moment, and we can see why!  They are the perfect way to keep hair off your face whilst still looking gorgeous.  Long lasting and the messier they look the better for boho vibes. If you want some braiding inspiration check out missysueblog or amberfillerup on Instagram, they are the Queens of braids and have some fab tutorials over on Youtube.

2. Blowdry. If you were to opt for a blowdry go on the day you head to the festival, as our Head of Styling Joanna shares, “a good blow dry should last at least 4 days” – perfect amount of time to get you through a festival.  Take dry shampoo but limit too much product on the hair to avoid it becoming greasy.  On the final day you could add in some glitter or hair paint to try something different, at least you know you’ll be able to wash it out when you get home that day!

3. Gel manicure.  This durable option for nails is perfect for a festival manicure. Choose a bright colour and show off your nails!  Book in a nail appointment with us at our Kensington salon where we use CND for a gel option or Essie polishes for a regular manicure, we have lots of colours to choose from!

4. Accessories.  Accessorise with temporary tattoos, floral headcrowns, layered necklaces and bold makeup.  Festivals are the time to experiment with your look and just have fun. There really are no rules and it’s a chance to let loose and enjoy yourself.

5. Baby wipes.  Essential for removing that stubborn glitter eye shadow at 5am and also useful if you’re not one for braving the communal showers!

6. Pop up mirror.  This will be your best friend because relying on your iPhone camera as a mirror just won’t do!

7. Hoody.  For when the temperature drops later on, it will be worth packing an extra layer.

8. Always be prepared for rain.  We know it doesn’t sound fun but pack appropriate wet weather gear; mac, wellies, caps, coats…  They may be heavy to carry but trust us you won’t regret bringing them when it comes to the unpredictable British weather!

9. Snacks.  Don’t forget to stay hydrated, drink plenty of water and take a flask with you to fill up when you can.  You’ll be grateful in the morning! High protein energy snacks are also good to stock up on.  Energy balls or even a handful of nuts to snack on will keep you going. After all that dancing you’ll need to recharge.

10. Polaroid camera.  Instead of draining your phone battery uploading to Instagram, experiment by taking retro style polaroids you can frame at home or send to friends.

Joanna, Head of Styling

Why did you want to be a hairdresser?

I always wanted to be a hairdresser since the age of 12.  My friend’s mum was a hairdresser and had a salon at her house, every time I went round there I was always interested in watching them and loved experimenting on my own hair.  As soon as I was 16 I left school and went straight into the industry.

What do you like about working at aer?

I love working at aer.  Firstly the location and clientele are fantastic.  The staff are all great and everyone has different outlooks/perspectives on things which works so well.  I’ve always enjoyed styling hair so it is perfect for me.

Favourite blowdry?

I’m loving our summer up-dos incorporating fresh flowers, particularly The Berkshire style.

(To see more check out our summer floral up-do service here).

Hair care product you can’t live without?

Oribe Creme for Style.  This gorgeous product really holds your blowdry, apply to wet hair and let the cream do the rest!

Hair up or down?

Down.  It’s either beach waves for an effortless just got out of bed look or straight and sleek for going out.

The Capetown blowdry at aer showcases soft tousled beach waves.

How long should a blow dry last?

A good blow dry should last at least four days but that does really depend upon the hair type, thicker/coarser hair will also last longer than those with thinner hair.

Celeb hair crush?

Alexa Chung – she rocks short hair!

Dream client?

Victoria Beckham.

Heels or flats?

Heels on a night out 100%.  I wouldn’t even go to the local bar in flats!

How long do you take to get ready for a night out?

I’m actually quite quick getting ready, as it’s normally a rush after a busy Saturday.  I would say half an hour and I’m out the door! Obviously my hair will be done at Aer in the day and my make up is usually finished en route!

London weekend hangout spot?

Southbank is great for an evening stroll or Borough market – I’d recommend trying one of the paella dishes, delicious!

Thank you to Joanna for taking the time for this interview, stay tuned for our next five minutes with series soon!

Royal Ascot

With Royal Ascot just a week away, we’re sure your outfit preparations are in full swing!  Seen as a major fashion event, there’s a lot to consider from worrying about how to style your hair and whether to take a jacket (cue check weather app for the millionth time), not to mention choosing the right hat!

We know the rules for this traditional event can be pretty confusing; do hats need to have brims, can you wear a knee length dress, what about a trouser suit? Don’t worry we’ve got you covered with the dos and don’ts in our simple Royal Ascot guide.

Dos

Wear a hat, headpiece or fascinator at all times.

If you are in the Royal Enclosure you must ensure that your hat has a solid base of 4 cm (10 inches) or more in diameter.

For the Queen Anne enclosure fascinators are also permitted and your headpiece can be any size.

Dresses and skirts should fall just above the knee or longer. Trouser suits can be worn – they should be full length and of matching material.

If you are in the Windsor Enclosure you are encouraged to wear smart clothes but no formal dress restrictions apply.

How to Choose the Perfect Hat

First things first, make sure you have chosen your dress, skirt or suit colour before you decide upon the hat. This way you know the base colour of your outfit and can build from there in terms of which blowdry style, hat and accessories to go for.

Consider how often you will be wearing your hat. If you have a wedding every other weekend this summer perhaps you’re looking to double up on some of your outfits! Neutral colours for your hat such as navys, creams and blacks would be the best bet.

If you don’t wear hats often and this is a one off event for you, consider hiring your hat instead!  Check out The Hat Club based in Fulham, London.

It seems obvious but always try on your hat before purchasing it! Remember things can look totally different on you than to that of the model. What suits someone else’s face shape, skin tone and hair style may be the opposite for you.

Shop around, ensure you do your research and seek inspiration from other milliners before choosing your hat.  We understand that we are now only a short time away from Ascot so if you wanted to make a bespoke order you would have been required to leave more time to place this with your milliner.  For future reference it is advisable to allow at least 4-6 weeks before the occasion, the earlier the better due to the popularity of Ascot, as you may be required to go for several fittings during the process.

Some of our favourite milliners to check out include;

Jane Taylor London, a favourite of the Royal family including the Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Eugenie.

Stephen Jones Millinery, considered one of the world’s most iconic milliners.

Fenwicks Bond Street branch have a fantastic selection of hats and headwear.

Blowdries

If you’re wearing your hat at an angle be sure to work out which side of the head you wish to wear it, this can affect your blowdry style and make up options.

4850778n

Consider how the hat will be attached- by comb, headband or  elastic? If it is elastic you must ensure that the colour matches your hair. All of these will affect the way you style your hair and will need to be thought out beforehand.

If you’re having a blowdry with us don’t forget to bring your headpiece to your appointment, our stylists at our Kensington salon are happy to advise on blowdry styles.  ‘The Maui’ blowdry featuring tropical waves from our new Spring/Summer 2016 styles would be a great look to show your hat off.  Or why not try one of our summer up-dos (see previous blog post)?

Remember you are going to be wearing your hat all day so you need to feel comfortable and confident. If you like veiling make sure it doesn’t obscure your vision or irritate you during the day.  The same applies for larger hat trimmings such as feathers or quills.  Having said this, embrace the opportunity to make a statement, it is rare that we get to wear hats everyday and it is a chance for you to be creative and try something new, so go for it!

Ensure you have a hat box to store and protect your hat before and after the big day.

And finally don’t let the rules stop you from enjoying yourself. The most important thing is that you feel confident and comfortable and have a wonderful day.
